Name: Mr R. And Mrs A. Hughes

Establishment: The Tavistock Arms Hotel Fore Street Gunnislake PL18 9BN

Tel: 01822 832 217

Serviced Accommodation: 6 double/twin rooms

On my arrival friendly staff called Robert came up from the cellar to show me around the rooms. The rear ground floor was being completely renovated, but the front bar and the restaurant remain unaffected, so that breakfast can be served in the restaurant at any time. However, breakfast is an optional extra, and many guests prefer to forego this to make an earlier start. This continental approach is welcomed by many who do not normally eat breakfast, and very helpful in this economical climate! Eye catching by the entrance give the room prices, the tariff shows breakfast prices and guests are advised on booking that breakfast is extra All the rooms had been in use prior to my arrival and I was able to see the before and after cleaning which is helpful as mattresses and coverings can be easily seen. I was introduced to Selina Hunt who was on her hands and knees thoroughly cleaning a bathroom floor. She obviously works well as completed rooms were spotless with towels and soaps placed on the beds, all well presented. All rooms have extra towels provided. All the windows are double glazed so avoiding any noise from passing traffic and curtains are lined. The windows were all opened to air the rooms. All rooms have en-suite shower rooms, tiled throughout and with good quality fitments, sanitary bins are provided. There is a sixth bedroom which is closed at present awaiting renovation during the next few weeks. As it is a larger room bunk beds may be added for use as a family room and this well be finished to the same excellent standards as all the other rooms. All statutory requirements are in place. Fire alarms are checked regularly and logged. Notices are placed on the bedroom doors detailing action in the event of a fire. I gave Robert a copy of information regarding the access statement which is now required. This is good value accommodation in a central position for exploring both Devon & Cornwall.
